Shirley Langston, founder of Restoration Haven in Waco, Texas, is a life-long Texan who left a successful corporate life to minister to the needs of people living in her home community.
Shirley believes that stubborn, hard-core, urban poverty can be fixed and that people and neighborhoods can be restored through a holistic approach that fosters emotional, physical, social and spiritual growth. Through Restoration Haven, she hopes to empower community members to support each other and become self-sufficient.
Her GAP Program provides items not covered by food stamps, but essential just the same: toiletries, detergent, cleaning supplies. Recipients, if not working or in school, must attend life skills classes to qualify. The Critical Assistance Program provides applicants with one-time rent payment to avoid eviction, as well as auto repairs, work clothes, car seats, medications and more, based on verified need.
Our matching funds grant allowed Shirley to continue these two new programs for this year.
