GPF Visits Abrahamic House’s First Event of the Year

    October 8, 2025

Last week Julie joined the first event of the year at Abrahamic House, founded by Mo (Mohammed) Al Samawi. The Abrahamic House, located in Washington, DC, is a residential fellowship program where young adults of different faith traditions live together and host programming that fosters interfaith dialogue, learning, and bridge-building. They have recently hired a new Executive Director and are hoping to expand their impact to additional cities!
    Mo shared afterward:
“Thank you Julie. Having the support of The Good People Fund goes far beyond the financial, it is the way you and Naomi engage with us, show up in person, and share in the spirit of what we are building together. That kind of partnership is rare, and it’s exactly what I hope for Abrahamic House as we continue to grow.”

The Konnection Celebrates 4 Years and new Klosets!

    September 19, 2025

We are proud of our grantee, The Konnection, founded by Sharnese Miller to help keep students in school by making sure they have the essential supplies they need. They are celebrating their 4th birthday and the opening of a brand new Konnection Kloset in a new school. In addition to our annual grant, GPF used funds from our Uplifting Lives Program to send an order of clothing to help replenish the Klosets as they kick off the school year!
Pictured above is the grand opening of the new Konnection Kloset. While this location will not house clothing daily, monthly clothing pop-ups (1–2 per month) will take place based on student need. Permanent items available here will include hygiene products, school supplies, underclothes, and more—resources students have said are most essential.

Sharnese shares more about the importance of Konnection Klosets:
“In Detroit, chronic absenteeism is one of the biggest barriers to student success. Often, the reason students miss school is tied to unmet basic needs—whether it’s hygiene items, clean underclothes, or school supplies. The Konnection Klosets were created to remove those barriers while also giving students a sense of dignity, love, and connection to their school community. Each Kloset is intentionally unique—its design, feel, and the resources it carries are shaped by the voices of the students themselves. By expanding, we are broadening the reach of this support and ensuring more youth have what they need to confidently show up, learn, and thrive.”

Thank You Video from 1in6 Support

    September 19, 2025

Iris Mehler, co-founder (with Alma Schneider) of 1in6 Support shared a heartfelt thank you video with us acknowledging the many ways that GPF supported them during their very first year as an official nonprofit devoted to supporting the families of children with disabilities. Pictured above is a screenshot from Iris and Alma’s recent check-in with Naomi and Julie—Iris is holding up a mug she made at the (un)conference that she keeps on hand for inspiration!

GPF Grantee Launches a Powerful Storytelling Video Series

    September 14, 2025

Grantee Tag Meir fights hatred and division in Israel by building bridges and engaging in acts of compassion. When Naomi visited with Tag Meir in February, she suggested a project to tell important stories of coexistence through videos. Founder Gadi Gvaryahu ran with the idea and recently published the first video in the series, supported by a special GPF grant. Take a look at the video here, with more to come!

    International Neighbors Celebrates 10 Years

    September 14, 2025

International Neighbors, a GPF grantee that equips newcomers to the United States with resources and skills they need to thrive, recently celebrated its ten year anniversary. Founder and CEO, Kari Anderson Miller, shared some reflections on the occasion of this big milestone:
“It feels like both a lifetime ago and just like yesterday when we officially launched International Neighbors with a gathering at Old Metropolitan Hall. As an elementary school teacher, I saw so much need in our refugee student community, especially when I scheduled in-home teacher visits. Food insecurity, makeshift beds on floors, lack of transportation to gain meaningful employment, confusion over school forms, little knowledge about basic household functions like thermostat operation, shower hardware, and laundry—all played into academic performance and social acceptance. My colleagues and I understood that we couldn’t solely focus on grades; we had to educate and equip the whole child—and their families too—a task that went far beyond the classroom.
That is the origin story. And ten years later, the narrative is largely the same—Welcoming. Equipping. Community building.
Someone asked me recently how our organization survived when statistically most non-profit organizations shudder in the first three years (not to mention the significant challenges of a divisive political climate, global pandemic, and an extended pause on the refugee admissions program in the United States since January). I answered that consistency over the last decade has been the key to our longevity. We simply refused to stop, even when change didn’t come as quickly as we would have liked, or when external circumstances were less than ideal.”

Hadassah Foundation Honors GPF Family, New and Old

    September 7, 2025

This week The Hadassah Foundation announced their Israel grants and we were thrilled to see two members of our Good People Fund family on the list: New grantee Racheli Tadessa Malkai, founder of Maatzimot (Empowering Ethiopian Women) and Moria Rodal Silfen, current CEO of GPF alum Atzum – Justiceworks (which runs the Task Force on Human Trafficking) founded by Rabbi Levi Lauer. Part of our mission is to amplify the work of our grantees as they move their organizations forward toward greater impact. We celebrate these achievements with them!
