Good People Fund grantee Civic Spirit, led by Executive Director Rabbi Charles “Charlie” Savenor, marked a major milestone on July 1: after eight years operating under the fiscal sponsorship of Hillel International, Civic Spirit is now officially an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Civic Spirit’s mission is to strengthen civic education and democratic engagement across Jewish and other faith-based schools, and this year that work has kept them especially busy leading programming around America’s 250th birthday. Charlie shared his gratitude for founders Rabbi Robert S. Hirt and Virginia Bayer, whose vision launched the organization and partners (like Good People Fund!) who helped build Civic Spirit into what it is today. We are proud to have supported Civic Spirit’s vision throughout, and we look forward to watching this next chapter of growth unfold. In a fitting mark of this transition, Good People Fund’s last check to Civic Spirit will be the first check deposited into their brand new independent nonprofit bank account. We are proud to announce that Civic Spirit is graduating and now becomes a beloved member of our alum grantee community.
