Heart to Plate
Providing Home-Cooked Meals for Isolated Elders
While there are many negative connotations associated with the term “Millenials”, it is difficult to recognize any of them when you meet Ronnie Lee and Matan Asulan, founders of Heart to Plate. College classmates, When Ronnie and Matan became aware of the number of elderly people who lead lives of isolation and hunger insecurity they were determined to help. Gathering friends and other volunteers (often entire families), the two created Heart to Plate, surely an appropriate term. Each elder is paired with two volunteers who, between them, are responsible for preparing extra Shabbat food for the elder and personally visiting each of them, thus creating a bond of both sustenance and friendship. The organization operates in five communities, with two new ones planned for this summer.
