Ma’atzimot

May 8, 2025 by

Ma'atzimot

Racheli Tadessa Malkai emigrated from Ethiopia to Israel in 1991. She was more than familiar with the traditional role played by women in her culture as well as the difficulties faced by people of color in their adopted homeland. She founded Ma’atzimot – Empowering Ethiopian-Israeli Women not only to counter that traditional role but also to address increased sexual harassment and domestic violence plaguing these women.

Racheli’s success can be judged by the more than 18,000 women and girls who have participated in programs run in nearly thirty communities across the country. Those programs promote leadership development, vocational training, entrepreneurship, emotional resilience and pride in their Ethiopian heritage.

Women Palante

March 14, 2024 by

Women Palante

The Spanish idiom “palante” can be translated as “go for it!”, an appropriate name for Yurani Sandoval’s organization, Women Palante which mentors and inspires Latina women as they pursue entrepreneurial ventures. The program includes not only critical financial expertise but also focuses on personal wellness, an often-ignored, but important tool leading to success.

Our matching grant is directed to administrative costs.

Nivcharot: Haredi Women’s Movement

July 13, 2017 by

Nivcharot

It all began with a Facebook campaign. Frustrated by the lack of women’s representation in the Israeli government’s religious parties, Esty Shushan discovered she was not alone and founded Nivcharot (No Voice – No Vote), the first and only organization of its kind in Israel. Nivcharot’s advocacy training and leadership seminars encourage Haredi women to “find their voice” in public, social and political life. As one participant shares, “I want to be a part of a people, a community…I also acquired a community of women like me, who aspire to do good in their sector and beyond.”

Nivcharot raises awareness and allows for open conversations on once-taboo topics such as divorce, birth control and arranged marriage. Despite an ever-changing government and Covid, Esty and the women she has inspired continue to be a driving force for change.

Our funds help underwrite the cost of the women’s symposium.
