Our Plan for Good emerged from an inclusive strategic planning process launched in August 2024 and guided by Dara Steinberg of Steinberg Consulting, together with the leadership of Naomi Eisenberger, Co-Founder and Executive Director; Julie Fisher, Associate Executive Director; and Beth Gansky, incoming Board Chair. Through interviews and focus groups with grantees, alumni grantees, supporters, board and professionals, our community reflected deeply on our mission, values, and evolving needs. Working groups formed around five key areas: Program, Fundraising & Financial Development, Governance, Infrastructure, and Transition, in order to develop goals and recommendations that were refined and ultimately approved by the board in spring 2025. The resulting plan is a living roadmap that will guide us through organizational transformation and leadership transition while preserving our trust-based, relationship-centered culture and ensuring long-term impact and sustainability. We are pleased to share a summary with you here and welcome your partnership as we bring this plan to life together.
Plan for Good: The Strategic Plan of The Good People Fund
Transforming for the Future. Sustaining the Good.
For 18 years, The Good People Fund has embraced a simple but powerful belief: find good people doing extraordinary acts of compassion and help them thrive through trust-based tzedakah and caring relationships. Supporting small, often overlooked efforts is sacred work—an act of tikkun olam, repairing the world.
As we celebrate our chai (18th) year, our Plan for Good lays a bold path forward—rooted in kindness, shaped by experience, and designed to deepen and multiply the good we make possible.
Small actions, Huge impacts.
18 Years of Good: We’re growing. We’re evolving. And we are at a milestone moment in our sacred journey.
Our founder and Executive Director, Naomi Eisenberger, whose vision created The Good People Fund, is preparing Julie Fisher, who has been immersed in our mission, culture, and community, to carry this work forward with integrity, heart, and vision. Together, they embody our belief that relationships are the engine of change. Plan for Good ensures a seamless transition and a sustainable foundation that honors our roots and carries us into our next chapter of doing good — together.
Our Five Strategic Priorities
- Strengthen Our Program
We’ll deepen our support for our social visionaries, our Good People, by expanding opportunities for connection, collaboration, and impact through our four pillars: grantmaking, mentoring, education, and community. Recently we have expanded our offerings to our grantees, and we look forward to providing even more opportunities for learning, gathering, and supporting our community. Our increased support directly enables our Good People to put more good into the world. - Ensure Financial Sustainability
To sustain and grow our mission, we are investing in relationships, with existing supporters and new ones, who share our belief in grassroots change so that our sacred work continues for generations. We look forward to fueling our mission boldly in order to put our Plan for Good into action. - Refresh Our Governance
We are evolving our board structure to more fully support our staff, strategy, and the social visionaries we serve, because good governance, like good tzedakah, is grounded in trust, humility, and service. We are reinvigorating committees, engaging new board members, and expanding our circle of support. Our board members are our greatest supporters and ambassadors for good – strengthening our governance strengthens our entire organization. - Strengthen Our Infrastructure
We are transitioning from a founder-led model to a small team-based approach to support individualized, nimble responses to need while preserving our relational culture. Our mission and values are not changing, but we are adapting to the changes in the world around us so we may meet new challenges with solidity and strength. - Lead a Thoughtful Transition
Naomi and Julie are walking together through a trust-filled transition, honoring our past and embracing the future with the care, kavod (respect), wisdom, and warmth that define The Good People Fund. They share a devotion to serving others and putting more good into the world. Since they met in 2017, Naomi has been a mentor, and they have worked together on projects large and small, culminating in Julie joining the ranks of The Good People Fund in 2023. As Naomi steps into an important emeritus role and Julie takes the helm of the organization, our strategic plan has helped illuminate a clear and thoughtful path forward.
Our Plan for Good is a living, breathing roadmap, guided by our values, responsive to the needs of our community, and brought to life by all who walk this path with us.
